Cochise Baseball takes 2 of 3 on the road at #2 Southern Nevada
HENDERSON, Nev. --- The Cochise Baseball team was on the road last weekend, visiting the 2nd-ranked College of Southern Nevada, which sits at the top of the ACCAC DI standings. The Apaches were coming off of a three-game sweep of Yavapai College in a series that was originally scheduled in Prescott, and due to weather, was moved to Douglas at Bo Hall Field. CSN came from a five-game win streak defeating Salt Lake Community and Eastern Arizona College.
Game 1 (Friday, March 14th: Cochise 4, Southern Nevada 9):
In the first game at Southern Nevada, the Apaches fell short to the Coyotes despite holding a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning where CSN scored six runs to overtake the Apaches. Cochise attempted to claw back into the game in the seventh scoring two more runs, but the Coyotes responded with two more of their own in the eighth. Sophomore Alejandro Vanegas began the game on the mound for Cochise allowing five hits and six runs, striking out four and walking one. The Apaches collected nine hits led by freshman Andrugh Yee who had three.
Game 2 (Saturday, March 15th: Cochise 5, Southern Nevada 4):
Game 2 was led by sophomore Francisco Laya who drove in four runs on two hits en route to a Cochise upset over CSN. The Apaches scored in the top of the second thanks to an RBI single from sophomore Alex Dabrowski. Sophomore ace Mathis Nayral stepped on the hill for the Apaches giving up eight hits and four runs, striking out four and walking three. Freshman right-hander Collin Smith appeared in relief tossing three innings of no-run ball, giving up one hit and striking out two.
Game 3 (Saturday, March 15th: Cochise 17, Southern Nevada 11):
The third and final game of the series was a high-scoring affair in which both teams scored a combined 28 runs off of 30 hits. Laya again led Cochise offensively, driving in five runs on three hits. Laya belted a grand slam to left field in the fifth inning for this second home run of the season. Sophomore Ramses Guerra was the starting pitcher for the Apaches, allowing five hits and four runs, striking out five, and walking three. Laya, Noah Allison, and Sawyer Fech each had three hits, while Yee and Tyson Owens had two.

Cochise Baseball (25-8,14-7) are winners of 8 of their last 9 games will be back home this week, hosting Okotoks Baseball Academy (Canada) on Wednesday, March 19th for a doubleheader at noon, and Community Christian College for a three-game conference series on Friday, March 21st (2:00 pm) and Saturday, March 22nd (noon DH).
