Cochise Stays Alive in Enid With 3–2 Double-Overtime Win Over #8 Monroe College
Apaches finish pool play 1–1; must wait for Daytona State vs. Monroe result to determine semifinal fate
ENID, Okla. (Nov. 17, 2025) — In one of the most dramatic victories of their season, the Cochise College Women's Soccer team kept its national tournament hopes alive with a thrilling 3–2 double-overtime win over #8 Monroe College on Monday morning at the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship.
Cochise finishes Pool A play with a record of 1–1, and now awaits the result of the final group match between #1 Daytona State (1–0) and #8 Monroe (0–1) to determine whether the Apaches advance to the NJCAA National Semifinal. Cochise will need significant help from the other match to move on.
How It Happened
After falling behind 2–0 in the opening 33 minutes, Cochise mounted a remarkable comeback, scoring twice in the second half before delivering the golden-goal winner in the second overtime period.
Monroe Takes Early Lead
Monroe struck quickly, scoring in the 25th and 33rd minutes, with goals from Julia Machado and Wiktoria Mikrut (assisted by Julia Migacz) to take a 2–0 advantage over the Apaches. Monroe outshot Cochise 11–2 in the first half and applied heavy pressure throughout the early stages.
Cochise Storms Back
The match flipped just three minutes into the second half when Tiia Kuhmonen ripped home an unassisted goal in the 48th minute, sparking the Cochise rally.
In the 85th minute, Jimena Zambrano sent the Cochise bench into a frenzy with a late equalizer, also unassisted, to tie the match at 2–2.
Double OT Winner
After chances for both sides in overtime—including multiple shots from Maria Ibarra and Diana Taddei—the breakthrough finally came in the 107th minute, when Maria Ibarra buried the golden goal to seal the 3–2 victory and complete the comeback for the Apaches.
