Cochise Falls to No. 1 Daytona State in National Tournament Opener
ENID, Okla. — November 16, 2025 — Competing on the national stage for the first time in program history, the Cochise College Women's Soccer team battled but fell 6-0 to #1-ranked Daytona State College in its opening match of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament at the Advance Sports Complex in Enid, Oklahoma.
Daytona State displayed why it entered the tournament undefeated, scoring six goals in the first half behind a fast and coordinated attack led by Shaneil Buckley (3 goals, 1 assist) and Susu Roberts (2 goals, 1 assist). Cochise regrouped in the second half, holding the Falcons scoreless over the final 45 minutes.
Sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Tamayo recorded four saves for the Apaches, facing ten shots on goal. Emely Tavarez, Diana Taddei, and Maria Ibarra each registered shot attempts for Cochise, which totaled nine shots and three corner kicks on the day. The match's physical tone produced four fouls for Cochise and five for Daytona State, with Cochise captain Stephanie Vazquez-Ceron drawing a yellow card late in the first half.
Despite the loss, the game marked another historic moment for the program — the first national-tournament appearance in school history following Region 1 and West District championship titles earlier this month.
