Cochise Women’s Soccer Celebrates Sophomore Day With 3–1 Win Over Yavapai
DOUGLAS, Ariz. (Oct. 18, 2025) — The Cochise College women's soccer team capped its regular-season home slate in style Saturday afternoon, defeating Yavapai College 3–1 on Sophomore Day at Cochise Soccer Field.
The Apaches dominated the opening half, pouring in two quick goals to seize early control. Diana Taddei opened the scoring in the 9th minute, finishing a setup from Ana Velazquez. Velazquez added to the lead in the 24th minute with a well-placed strike of her own, sending Cochise into the break ahead 2–0.
Yavapai briefly closed the gap in the 53rd minute on a goal from Keira Campbell (assist Reagan Peterson), but the Apaches responded late when Velazquez found the net again in the 79th minute to secure the win.
Cochise outshot Yavapai 19–6 and controlled possession throughout, producing 10 shots on goal to the Roughriders' 5. Goalkeeper Julia Vigorito earned the win, recording 1 save while Marissa Tamayo added 2 in relief.
The victory lifts Cochise to 8-5-3 overall (4-4-1 ACCAC) and marks a fitting home finale as the program honored its sophomore class prior to kickoff.
The Apaches now turn their attention to the final match of the regular season, a road trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, to face the College of Southern Nevada on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 11:00 a.m. MST.
