Cochise Women’s Soccer Draws 3-3 in Non-Conference Thriller at Pima
TUCSON, Ariz. (Oct. 9, 2025) — In a high-energy non-conference matchup between two of Arizona's top programs, the Cochise College women's soccer team battled Pima Community College to a 3-3 draw Thursday night at Pima's West Campus Aztec Field.
The match featured momentum swings and six total goals. Pima opened the scoring in the 8th minute on a strike from Ava Dagnino (assist Yajaira Cervantes), but Cochise quickly answered as Ana Velazquez scored unassisted in the 11th minute. The Apaches took the lead moments later when Diana Taddei found the back of the net in the 19th minute, also unassisted.
Pima equalized before halftime with another goal from Dagnino in the 30th minute, assisted by Ashley Martinez, sending the teams into the break tied at 2-2. In the second half, Maria Satizabal reclaimed the lead for Cochise in the 71st minute with an unassisted finish. The Aztecs rallied late, however, as Samantha Mendez scored in the 90th minute to force the draw.
The match was evenly contested — both teams recorded nine shots and six saves. Cochise committed six fouls to Pima's three, while also earning three corner kicks.
Goalkeeper Marissa Tamayo led the Apache defense with six saves, facing a relentless Pima attack that pressed until the final whistle.
The result moves Cochise to 7-4-3 overall (3-3-1 ACCAC) as the Apaches continue to show grit against high-level competition.
Next up, Cochise faces another top-tier challenge, traveling to Yuma to take on No. 2-ranked Arizona Western College — the current No. 1 team in the ACCAC — on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 6:00 p.m. MST.
