Cochise Women’s Soccer Stuns No. 6 Phoenix College with 2-0 Victory
DOUGLAS, Ariz. (Sept. 17, 2025) — The Cochise College women's soccer team delivered a statement win Wednesday afternoon, defeating No. 6 Phoenix College 2-0 at Cochise College Soccer Field to secure its second straight victory.
The Apaches set the tone early with high energy and aggressive play, outshooting the nationally ranked Bears 14-9. Sophomore Diana Taddei broke through in the 17th minute, finishing a setup from Andrea Vazquez to give Cochise the 1-0 lead at halftime.
Phoenix pressed for an equalizer in the second half, but Cochise goalkeeper Marissa Tamayo came up with three key saves to preserve the advantage. The Apaches sealed the win in the 78th minute when Jennifer Hernandez scored off an assist from Kassandra Flores, capping the upset.
Both teams played physically, combining for 12 fouls, but Cochise kept its composure to close out the match. Phoenix keeper Bijou Holm finished with five saves but could not keep the Apaches off the scoreboard.
The victory improves Cochise to 5-2-1 overall, marking the team's second consecutive win and first victory over a nationally ranked opponent this season.
Cochise will look to keep its momentum rolling on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 3:00 p.m. MST, when they host No. 2 Arizona Western College in another top-tier matchup at Cochise Soccer Field.
