Cochise Women’s Soccer Earns First Home Win of Season Over Mohave
DOUGLAS, Ariz. (Sept. 9, 2025) — The Cochise College women's soccer team picked up its first home victory of the 2025 season Tuesday afternoon, defeating Mohave Community College 2-1 at Cochise College.
Sophomore Diana Taddei powered the Apaches' offense, scoring both goals in the opening half. She opened the scoring in the 10th minute, finishing a pass from Tiia Kuhmonen, and struck again in the 37th minute off an assist from Ana Velazquez to give Cochise a 2-0 lead.
Mohave answered after the break, as Brianna Kumashiro scored in the 80th minute to cut the deficit to one. Both teams battled through a physical second half that saw 16 combined fouls, but Cochise held strong defensively to secure the win.
The Apaches were outshot 13-8, but the goalkeeping tandem of Marissa Tamayo and Julia Vigorito made the difference. Tamayo recorded four first-half saves, while Vigorito added five in the second half to preserve the one-goal margin.
The win improves Cochise to 4-2-1 overall, snapping a two-match skid and giving the Apaches momentum heading deeper into conference play.
Cochise returns home on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 3:00 p.m. MST, when they host Div. II No. 11-ranked Phoenix College on the Cochise campus in Douglas.
