Cochise Women’s Soccer Drops ACCAC Opener at No. 15 Eastern Arizona
THATCHER, Ariz. (Sept. 6, 2025) — In a weather-delayed match at John Mickelson Field, the Cochise College women's soccer team fell 2-0 to No. 15 Eastern Arizona in its ACCAC opener Saturday evening.
After a nearly 90-minute delay due to rain and lightning 10 minutes into the start of the match, the teams battled through slick, wet conditions. The first half ended scoreless, but Eastern Arizona broke through in the 55th minute when Sophia Oliveira found the back of the net. The Gila Monsters doubled their lead late as Brynn Kelly scored in the 83rd minute, assisted by Oliveira, to seal the result.
Cochise recorded three shots on goal, but could not capitalize against a steady EAC defense. Goalkeeper Marissa Tamayo kept the Apaches in the match with four saves, but the nationally ranked hosts controlled possession and created nine shots on frame.
The loss drops Cochise to 3-2-1 overall, dropping their second consecutive match. The Apaches will now look forward to their first home match of the season, hosting Mohave Community College on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 11:00 a.m. in Douglas, Ariz.
