Former Apache Star Returns: Ivana Siles Joins Cochise Women’s Soccer Staff
DOUGLAS, Ariz. — Former Cochise College standout and Bolivian international Ivana Siles is returning to where her American soccer journey began — this time, on the sidelines. The former Apache forward has joined the women's soccer coaching staff for the 2025 season, bringing with her a wealth of international playing experience and a deep personal connection to the program.
Siles, who once wore the red and black as a student-athlete, says coming back to Cochise is a full-circle moment.
"Returning to Cochise College as a coach is very special to me because it's where my career outside my home country began," Siles said. "This place holds great personal significance, as it marked the start of a new chapter in my life, both as a person and as a player. I'm excited to give back to Cochise what it once gave me."
From Bolivia to Douglas to the World Stage
Siles' soccer journey started at a young age in her native Bolivia, often competing on boys' teams due to limited opportunities for women. Her talent quickly rose to the national stage.
"I've been part of nationally recognized clubs, which allowed me to represent Bolivia in various youth divisions, including U-17 and U-20, and I am currently part of the senior national team," Siles explained.
Her U.S. playing career began at Cochise, where she first experienced collegiate soccer before transferring to a Division II university to continue her development.
The Transition to Coaching
While this will be her first formal collegiate coaching position, Siles has already spent time sharing her knowledge of the game through youth camps and training programs. She says her unconventional path — often coaching herself along the way — shaped her approach to the game.
"I have always been my own coach: I developed my skills independently, practicing and learning on my own," she said. "Thanks to this approach, I've achieved significant milestones, including representing my country and earning a scholarship that allowed me to leave Bolivia and continue my career in the U.S."
Passion, Perspective, and Winning Mentality
As she takes on her new role at Cochise, Siles hopes to provide not only tactical and technical guidance but also mentorship off the field.
"I believe I can bring a lot of passion and dedication to Cochise," she said. "I'm highly competitive as a person and as a player, and I love winning. I want to instill this mindset in the team, showing them that even through losses or draws, there are always lessons to prepare for future challenges."
Siles added that her perspective as a former international student will allow her to support current Apache's as they navigate both athletics and academics.
Reuniting with a Familiar Face
One of the most exciting aspects of Siles' return is the chance to coach alongside Santos Rangel, her former coach.
"What excites me most about working with Santos again is his calm and balanced approach, which is crucial in high-pressure situations," she said. "During my time at Cochise, especially the year I played for him, I learned a great deal, and he left a lasting impact on my development as an athlete. Returning to collaborate with him is a true pleasure."
Looking Ahead
For Siles, this season represents both a new challenge and a homecoming. She hopes to help today's Apache's grow into the same kind of players and people she became during her time in Douglas.
"I want to motivate and guide the players, helping them have the best experience possible, just as I did," she said.
