Cochise Rodeo Closes Fall Season Strong at Mesalands
TUCUMCARI, N.M. — The Cochise College Rodeo Team wrapped up the final rodeo of the NIRA Grand Canyon Region fall season October 10–11 at the Quay County Fairgrounds, hosted by Mesalands Community College.
With top finishes across multiple events and both teams landing in the top three overall, the Apaches closed the fall campaign on a high note — showing consistency, teamwork, and grit that carried through all three fall rodeos.
Friday, October 10 – Opening Night
Cochise came out of the gates strong in several events, setting the stage for a competitive weekend:
Tie Down Roping

Taten Erickson started hot with a 3rd-place run in the long go, maintaining steady form throughout the weekend.

Kass Kimble earned a 4th-place long go finish, while teammates Walker Story and Cason Scouten followed closely in 6th and 8th, respectively.
Team Roping

The duo of Taten Erickson and Walker Story delivered a solid early performance that set up their later podium finish.

Tristan Goodwin and Garrett Berreth finished 10th in the long go after a clean opening round.
Saddle Bronc Riding

Tristan Goodwin impressed once again with a 2nd-place ride in the first round, continuing his consistent momentum from previous rodeos.
Breakaway Roping

Taylor Broderson placed 2nd in the long go, keeping the women's team in strong contention early.

Alexia Guzman followed close behind, landing between 4th–8th in the long go.
Goat Tying

Macie Fowlie kept her strong fall run alive with a 2nd-place long go finish.
Barrel Racing

Sealey Bottom opened with a quick 3rd-place long go run.

Kylynn Bryson placed 7th in the long go to secure a spot in the short round.
Saturday, October 11 – Finals & Averages
The Apaches delivered strong finishes across the board as the final night of competition concluded the fall slate.
Tie Down Roping

Taten Erickson placed 3rd in the short round and 3rd overall in the average, marking another podium finish in an exceptional fall season.

Kass Kimble stayed right behind him, finishing 4th in the short go and 4th in the average.

Erickson and Story also paired up in Team Roping, taking 2nd in the short go and 2nd/3rd in the average to cap off their strong showing.
Saddle Bronc Riding

Tristan Goodwin finished 2nd in the average after another consistent two-head performance.
Breakaway Roping

Alexia Guzman climbed to 3rd in the short go and 3rd in the average, while Taylor Broderson's strong long go set the pace early.
Goat Tying

Macie Fowlie secured 2nd in the average, along with 3rd in the short go to combine with her long go performance.
Barrel Racing

Sealey Bottom completed a clean sweep of 3rd-place finishes — 3rd in the long go, short round, and average.

Kylynn Bryson followed in 4th overall, adding a 4th-place short go to her earlier 7th-place long go ride.

Looking Ahead
With the fall portion of the NIRA Grand Canyon Region schedule complete, the Apaches now turn their attention to the spring 2026 season, which begins in March. The highlight of the spring slate will be the annual Cochise College Rodeo at Wren Arena in Fort Huachuca, Arizona — a premier home event that draws some of the best collegiate talent in the region.
