Cochise Women’s Basketball Earns Multiple ACCAC & Region I Postseason Honors
DOUGLAS, Ariz. — Cochise College Women's Basketball was well represented in postseason recognition this year, as two Apaches earned major honors from the ACCAC Conference and NJCAA Region I following the 2025–26 season.
Freshman forward Malika Goutay headlined the awards, earning ACCAC Conference Freshman of the Year honors while also being named to the All-Region I First Team. Fellow freshman Cecy Burruel was recognized as an All-Region I Second Team selection after a strong debut season.
Malika Goutay – ACCAC Freshman of the Year | All-Region I First Team
Goutay made an immediate impact in her first collegiate season, emerging as one of the top frontcourt players in the conference. She consistently led the Apaches in scoring and rebounding, recording multiple double-doubles throughout the year.
During conference play, Goutay delivered several standout performances, including:

A 26-point, 9-rebound performance against Arizona Western

A 20-point, 14-rebound double-double at Central Arizona

A 17-point, 12-rebound outing versus No. 1 Eastern Arizona

A dominant 12-point, 16-rebound effort in a key road win at Southern Nevada
Her physical presence in the paint, rebounding ability, and defensive impact — including multi-block games — made her one of the most consistent interior players in the ACCAC. Goutay's ability to control the glass and score efficiently anchored Cochise throughout conference play.
Being named ACCAC Freshman of the Year highlights her immediate impact, while her All-Region I First Team selection places her among the elite players in the region.
Cecy Burruel – All-Region I Second Team
Burruel provided dynamic scoring and perimeter leadership throughout her freshman campaign. Known for her ability to stretch the floor and score in bunches, she delivered several explosive performances during the season.

Burruel's perimeter shooting, ball-handling, and playmaking ability made her a critical offensive weapon for the Apaches, earning her recognition as an All-Region I Second Team selection.
