Cochise Falls to No. 1 Eastern Arizona on Sophomore Day
DOUGLAS, Ariz. — Cochise College Women's Basketball faced a tough challenge Saturday afternoon, falling 73–31 to No. 1 ranked Eastern Arizona College in ACCAC conference action at the Cochise Stronghold Gymnasium. The loss moves the Apaches to 8–20 overall and 4–9 in conference play.
Eastern Arizona established control early, holding Cochise to just three points in the first quarter and building a 45–9 halftime lead. The Gila Monsters continued their defensive pressure throughout the contest, limiting scoring opportunities and capitalizing on turnovers to maintain a commanding advantage.
Freshman Malika Goutay led Cochise with 17 points and 12 rebounds, recording a double-double while attacking the paint and converting at the free-throw line. Hannah Dibadjou added six points and seven rebounds, and Gaby Oliver contributed five points, including three free throws.
Cochise struggled offensively against Eastern Arizona's defense, shooting just 12.8 percent from the field and 7.7 percent from three-point range. The Apaches also committed 29 turnovers, which led to 32 points for the visitors. Eastern Arizona held a 43–29 rebounding advantage and dominated inside with 34 points in the paint.
Eastern Arizona was led by Esmeralda Enriquez, who scored 16 points, while multiple players contributed to a balanced offensive effort as the Lady Gila Monsters remained unbeaten in conference play.
