Cochise Falls to Arizona Western at Home
DOUGLAS, Ariz. — Cochise College Women's Basketball battled throughout the night but fell 70–57 to Arizona Western College in ACCAC conference action Wednesday evening at the Cochise Stronghold Gymnasium.
The loss moves the Apaches to 8–19 overall and 4–8 in conference play.
Arizona Western set the tone early, jumping out to a 21–8 first-quarter lead and maintaining control for much of the contest. Cochise found rhythm in the second quarter and continued to compete throughout the second half, but the early deficit proved difficult to overcome.
Freshman Malika Goutay delivered another standout performance, leading Cochise with 26 points and nine rebounds, shooting efficiently from the field and attacking the paint while also adding three blocks and four assists.
Hannah Dibadjou provided strong scoring support with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Cecy Burruel contributed five points and four steals. Lesline Penge added five points and three rebounds, and Noa Mikami recorded five assists to help facilitate the offense.
Arizona Western was powered by Mable Doumbia, who scored a game-high 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, helping the Matadors maintain separation throughout the night.
Cochise shot 41.2 percent from the field and matched Arizona Western with 34 points in the paint, but turnovers and second-chance opportunities proved decisive. The Matadors scored 26 points off turnovers and added 15 second-chance points to secure the road win.

Cochise returns home on Saturday, February 21, to host No. 1 ranked Eastern Arizona College at the Cochise Stronghold Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., and the game will also serve as Sophomore Day.
