Cochise Earns Road Win at Yavapai to Open Second Half of Conference Play
PRESCOTT, Ariz. — Cochise College Women's Basketball delivered one of its strongest performances of the season Wednesday night, rolling past Yavapai College 79–60 in ACCAC conference action at Prescott Valley, earning a key road victory.
The win improves the Apaches to 7–18 overall and 3–7 in conference play, giving Cochise momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season
Cochise set the tone early, building a 30–22 lead after the first quarter behind efficient shooting and strong ball movement. The Apaches continued to apply pressure in the second period, extending the advantage to 49–38 at halftime, before pulling away in the second half.
The Apaches shot an impressive 56.6 percent from the field and connected on 13 three-pointers, finishing at 54.2 percent from beyond the arc, as the offense remained balanced throughout the night
Freshman Cecy Burruel led Cochise with 27 points, knocking down 7-of-9 three-pointers and adding five rebounds in 33 minutes. Noa Mikami followed with 22 points, hitting four three-pointers and providing steady perimeter play.
Malika Goutay recorded a strong all-around effort with 13 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of conference play, while Lesline Penge added six points and seven rebounds in the post. Gaby Oliver chipped in six points and three assists, helping facilitate the offense.
Cochise controlled the tempo for much of the contest, winning the rebounding battle 30–25 and committing just 14 turnovers, limiting Yavapai's transition opportunities
