Cochise Comes Up Short Against Southern Nevada in Conference
DOUGLAS, Ariz. — Cochise College Women's Basketball battled to the final possession but fell just short Friday night, dropping a 47–46 decision to the College of Southern Nevada in ACCAC conference action at the Cochise Stronghold Gymnasium. The loss moves the Apaches to 5–12 overall and 1–1 in conference play.
The tightly contested matchup featured nine ties and eight lead changes, with neither team able to create separation throughout the night. Cochise led 13–10 after the first quarter and carried a slim 24–23 advantage into halftime before Southern Nevada edged ahead in the second half.
Freshman Cecy Burruel led Cochise with 10 points, adding three assists and four rebounds while playing all 40 minutes. Gaby Oliver finished with 11 points, while Malika Goutay provided a strong spark off the bench with 12 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and three steals, recording a double-double.
Sophomore center Lesline Penge anchored the paint with 19 rebounds, including five offensive boards, along with three points and three blocks. Hannah Dibadjou contributed eight points and five rebounds as Cochise won the rebounding battle 47–37.
Cochise had multiple opportunities late, pulling within one point in the final minute, but was unable to convert in the closing seconds. Turnovers proved costly, as the Apaches committed 19, leading to 19 Southern Nevada points off turnovers
Southern Nevada was led by Saroiya Ajomale with 18 points, while Trista Mabry added 15 as the Coyotes improved to 12–4 overall and 1–1 in conference play.

Cochise returns home to continue ACCAC play on Wednesday, January 14, hosting Arizona Western College at the Cochise Stronghold Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
