Cochise’s Burruel and Jones Named ACCAC Players of the Week (Week 9)
Cecy Burruel
Cochise College freshman guard Cecy Burruel has been named the ACCAC Conference Player of the Week for Week 9 following a standout three-game stretch that highlighted her scoring ability, poise, and offensive leadership.
Burruel led the Apaches in scoring across all three contests, averaging 24.7 points per game while shouldering the offensive load in back-to-back matchups against conference opponent Pima Community College.
She opened the week with a 27-point performance against Pima in the opening game of the Aztec Winter Classic, leading all scorers while adding three assists and playing nearly the entire game. Burruel followed that effort with a career-high 33 points in the second game of the back-to-back, scoring efficiently from all three levels and helping Cochise force overtime in a tightly contested rematch.
Earlier in the week, Burruel also posted 21 points in the Texans Classic finale against Midland College, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line and continuing her consistent scoring run.
Over the three-game span, Burruel totaled:
-
81 points
-
24.7 points per game
-
Double-digit scoring in all three games
-
Heavy minutes with strong efficiency and ball control
Her ability to attack the basket, draw contact, and deliver in pressure moments played a key role in Cochise's competitiveness throughout the week and earned her conference recognition.
Burruel and the Apaches return to action tomorrow, January 8th in conference play hosting the College of Southern Nevada at 5:30 pm inside of the Stronghold Gymnasium.
Davon Jones
Cochise College men's basketball freshman Davon Jones was named the ACCAC Conference Player of the Week for Week 9 following an outstanding performance in the Apaches' road win at Glendale Community College.
Jones delivered a highly efficient outing off the bench, scoring 21 points in just 23 minutes of action as Cochise earned a 103–84 victory. The freshman guard shot 7-of-10 from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line, providing a major spark on both ends of the floor.
In addition to his scoring, Jones added three rebounds, one block, and one steal, helping Cochise maintain control throughout the second half. His ability to attack the rim, finish through contact, and capitalize at the foul line played a key role in the Apaches' offensive efficiency.
The ACCAC weekly honor marks the first conference recognition of Jones' collegiate career and highlights his impact during Week 9 of the season.
Cochise men's basketball will start conference play with Southern Nevada tomorrow at 7:30 pm as the Apaches look to build on their momentum.
