Cochise Falls to South Plains in Texans Classic Opener
LEVELLAND, Texas — The Cochise College Women's Basketball team opened play at the Texans Classic on Friday afternoon, falling to host South Plains College 87–54 at Texan Dome. The loss drops the Apaches to 3–7 on the season.
Cochise stayed within striking distance early, trailing 18–13 after the first quarter before South Plains found its rhythm in the second. The Lady Texans used a 22–9 run to take control by halftime and held off Cochise the rest of the way, shooting 48% from the field and 83% from the free-throw line.
Sophomore forward Lesline Penge posted another dominant performance in the paint, recording 15 points and 14 rebounds, including 4 offensive boards, along with 5 blocks and 3 assists.
Freshman Hannah Dibadjou added 18 points and 12 rebounds, continuing her strong rebounding stretch, while Cecy Burruel finished with 5 points and 3 assists.
The Apaches were aggressive on the glass, outrebounding South Plains 45–36, but turnovers proved costly. Cochise committed 23 turnovers, leading to 27 South Plains points
South Plains (9–1) was led by Jordyn Holmes, who scored 16 points, while Taneisha Rollins and Grace Mitchell added 13 each. The Lady Texans' depth played a key role, with their bench contributing 30 points to Cochise's 10.
Despite the loss, Cochise showed improved defensive rotations and energy in the fourth quarter, holding South Plains to 14 points while closing the game on an 11–4 run.

Cochise (3–7) returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, December 6, for the second and final day of the Texans Classic, taking on Midland College at 11:00 AM MST in Levelland, Texas.
