Cochise Falls to Monroe College to Close Battle for the Boot Classic
TWIN FALLS, Idaho — The Cochise College Women's Basketball team wrapped up its three-game road trip at the Battle for the Boot Classic on Saturday evening, falling to Monroe College (NY) 77–48 at the College of Southern Idaho. The loss marked the Apaches' third straight defeat, dropping their overall record to 2–6 on the season.
Cochise battled hard through the first half but couldn't overcome Monroe's balanced scoring and defensive pressure. The Mustangs held the Apaches to 29% shooting and just 15 first-half points, building a 39–15 halftime lead before Cochise found rhythm late in the game .
Sophomore forward Lesline Penge continued to anchor the Apaches inside with 12 points, 17 rebounds, and 4 blocks, recording her fourth double-double of the season. Freshman Hannah Dibadjou added 11 points and 6 rebounds, while freshman Gaby Oliver contributed 9 points and 3 assists. Freshman guard Cecy Burruel chipped in 7 points and provided steady ball movement against Monroe's full-court press .
Despite the loss, Cochise remained strong on the glass, outrebounding Monroe 46–42, including 18 offensive boards. However, turnovers once again proved costly, with the Mustangs converting 25 Cochise turnovers into 31 points .
Monroe was led by Alyssa Jones with 17 points, while Tiana Barrett and Isabella Franco added 12 apiece. The Mustangs shot 45% from the field and used a 22–9 second-quarter surge to pull away for good.
Cochise found momentum in the fourth quarter, outscoring Monroe 17–14, showing resilience that will carry into next week's road trip.
