Cochise falls to Western Wyoming, looks ahead to final game in Thatcher
THATCHER, Ariz. — Cochise College Women's Basketball dropped to 0–2 on the young season after a 75–58 loss to Western Wyoming on Thursday afternoon at Guitteau Gymnasium.
Cochise stayed within striking distance through the first three quarters, but 27 turnovers and efficient outside shooting from the Mustangs proved costly. Western Wyoming shot 44% from three and 92% from the free-throw line, while Cochise finished 36% from the field and 7-of-19 from deep.
Freshman Gaby Oliver led the Apaches with 19 points and 6 assists. Freshman Cecy Burruel added 13 points, and Lesline Penge collected 13 rebounds with 6 points. Nicole Pereira provided 8 points and 4 boards in 21 quality minutes off the bench.
Western Wyoming was paced by Amanda Baumgarte, who scored 22 points, including four three-pointers. The Mustangs pulled ahead early with a 26–16 first-quarter lead and maintained control behind 24 points off Cochise turnovers, despite the Apaches winning the rebounding battle 36–29.
