Cochise Rodeo Continues Strong Spring Season at NMSU Rodeo
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Cochise College Rodeo Team kept its momentum rolling during the New Mexico State University Rodeo, held April 10–11 in Las Cruces. Competing against top programs in the NIRA Grand Canyon Region, the Apaches once again turned in a strong performance with the women's team finishing 2nd overall and the men's team placing 3rd.
Day One – Long Go Results
Cochise athletes positioned themselves well during the opening rounds with multiple top finishes:
Tie Down Roping
- Rylee McRoberts led the way with a 2nd-place finish in the long go.
- Taten Erickson placed 7th, while Cason Scouten followed in 8th.
Steer Wrestling
- Taten Erickson posted a strong run to finish 5th in the long go.
Goat Tying
- Sealey Bottom placed in a 2nd/3rd split.
- Macie Fowlie followed with a 4th/5th split.
- Taylor Broderson added a 6th/7th split finish.
Breakaway Roping
- Macie Fowlie placed 4th in the long go.
Team Roping
- Cason Scouten finished 5th in the long go.
- The team of Taten Erickson and Walker Story placed 10th.
Day Two – Short Round & Aggregate Results
Cochise competitors capitalized on their strong starts, turning in solid finishes in the final round and overall standings:
Steer Wrestling
- Taten Erickson finished 2nd overall, continuing his standout spring campaign.
Goat Tying
- Sealey Bottoms secured 2nd in the aggregate.
- Macie Fowlie placed 4th overall, adding to the team's strong showing in the event.
Team Roping
- Taten Erickson and Walker Story improved to finish 3rd overall in the aggregate.
Tie Down Roping
- Cason Scouten placed 5th overall, contributing key points to the men's team standings.
Team Standings

Looking Ahead
The Cochise College Rodeo Team will look to build on its consistent performances as the NIRA Grand Canyon Region spring season continues for its final event in Prescott, AZ, April 23-25, with athletes positioning themselves for a chance to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyoming, this June.
