Apaches Set to Host Region I Championship Game Against College of Southern Nevada
The stage is set in Douglas.
After an impressive 90-76 victory over No. 2 seed Eastern Arizona College in the NJCAA Region I Semifinals, the No. 3-seeded Cochise College Apaches will now host the Region I Championship Game against the No. 4 seed College of Southern Nevada on Saturday, March 7, at 7:00 p.m. inside the Stronghold Gymnasium.
Cochise enters the championship matchup with momentum after a strong postseason performance in Thatcher. The Apaches placed four players in double figures in the semifinal victory, led by Teron Murray's 25 points, while Davon Jones added 22 points, and both Jhace Johnson and Emmanuel Jo-Samuel contributed 16 points each.
The win marked another strong performance from Cochise's balanced offensive attack that has powered the Apaches throughout the season.
A Championship Opportunity at Home
Despite entering the tournament as the No. 3 seed, Cochise will host the championship game after College of Southern Nevada upset top-seeded Arizona Western College 88-87 in the other semifinal in Yuma.
That result sets up a compelling championship matchup between two teams that battled during the regular season. Earlier this season, the Apaches opened conference play with a two-game series against CSN in Douglas, falling in both games. Cochise won their third and final matchup with the Coyotes in mid-February in Henderson, NV.
Saturday's contest will determine the NJCAA Region I Champion, with the winner advancing to the next stage of postseason play, the NJCAA West District Championship.
