Apaches Sweep Community Christian Doubleheader, Improve to 13–3 Ahead of Conference Play
The Cochise College Apaches closed out their non-conference schedule in dominant fashion on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader against Community Christian at Bo Hall Field to improve to 13–3 on the season.
Cochise rolled to a 13–0 win in the opener before following with a 12–2 victory in the nightcap, combining explosive offense with dominant pitching to complete the sweep.
Game One: Cochise 13, Community Christian 0
The Apaches wasted no time taking control in the opener, scoring four runs in each of the first two innings and cruising to a 13–0 shutout win.
Cochise collected 13 hits and produced power throughout the lineup. Shiryu Sato led the way with two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. Andrugh Yee also homered and drove in two runs, while Anthony Montez added two hits and two RBIs. Cesar Chavira contributed three RBIs, and Landon Blais added an RBI and a triple as part of the early offensive surge.
Gavin Mesa scored three runs and added two hits, while Sawyer Fech chipped in with a hit, an RBI, and a stolen base.
On the mound, Dylan Torres earned the win with three scoreless innings, and the Apaches' pitching staff was nearly flawless. Torres, Max Pitts, and Landen Nigg combined to throw a no-hitter over five innings, allowing just one walk while striking out five to secure the shutout.
Game Two: Cochise 12, Community Christian 2
Cochise carried its momentum into the nightcap, posting another strong offensive showing in a 12–2 victory.
The Apaches scored in four different innings, highlighted by a four-run second and a three-run fifth. Cochise finished with 11 hits and continued to pressure Community Christian with extra-base power.
Anthony Montez powered the offense with a home run and three RBIs, while Shaw Jr. also homered and drove in two runs. Brady Skinner had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Zach Cavanaugh recorded two doubles, and Chavira added two hits and an RBI.
On the mound, Ben Couvreur earned the win after three scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Ben Smith and Noah Miller finished the game, combining to allow just two runs while striking out four more batters.
Momentum Heading into Conference Play
With the sweep, Cochise improves to 13–3 overall and will begin conference play with strong momentum on both sides of the ball. The Apaches displayed depth throughout the lineup and dominant pitching, outscoring Community Christian 25–2 across the doubleheader.
