Apaches Extend Win Streak to Five with Home Victory over Eastern Arizona
DOUGLAS, AZ — The Cochise College Apaches continued their strong late-season surge Saturday afternoon, defeating Eastern Arizona College 76-71 on Sophomore Day at Stronghold Gymnasium. The victory marked Cochise's fifth consecutive win and improved the Apaches to 18-10 overall and 8-5 in ACCAC play.
Cochise set the tone early, building momentum in the first half behind efficient scoring and defensive pressure. The Apaches led 40-30 at halftime and maintained control throughout a competitive second half, holding off multiple Eastern Arizona comeback attempts down the stretch.
Freshman guard Davon Jones delivered another standout performance, leading all scorers with 25 points, including strong work at the free-throw line and key baskets during critical stretches. He also added rebounds and defensive presence to help secure the win.
Jhace Johnson provided consistent offensive production with 23 points, helping anchor the Apaches' scoring effort, while Teron Murray contributed 11 points and seven rebounds, giving Cochise valuable interior energy.
The Apaches capitalized on opportunities throughout the game, forcing turnovers and converting them into points while shooting efficiently from the free-throw line, finishing 19-of-23 (82.6%). Cochise also limited mistakes, committing just nine turnovers compared to Eastern Arizona's 15.
Eastern Arizona was led by Kahu Treacher's 21 points and Ryder Bush's 17, but Cochise's balanced scoring and timely defensive stops proved decisive late.
With the win, Cochise continues to build momentum in conference play during a critical stretch of the season.
The Apaches return to action Wednesday, February 25, when they travel to Casa Grande to face Central Arizona College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
