Win Streak Snapped as Cochise Falls to Arizona Western on the Road
Yuma, Ariz. — Cochise College men's basketball saw its three-game winning streak come to an end Saturday night, falling 88–75 to Arizona Western College in ACCAC conference action. The loss drops the Apaches to 13–9 overall and 3–4 in conference play.
Cochise stayed competitive early and trailed by just six at halftime, but AWC took control in the second half behind efficient shooting and strong bench production. The Matadors outscored the Apaches after the break and gradually built a double-digit cushion that held through the final minutes.
Freshman Teron Murray led Cochise with 32 points on an efficient 13-of-19 shooting performance, continuing his strong stretch of play. Davon Jones added 16 points and five rebounds, while Jhace Johnson finished with 15 points and four assists.
Emmanuel Jo Samuel contributed seven points, and Gabriel Toribio chipped in 10 off the bench as Cochise worked to stay within striking distance throughout the contest.
Despite shooting nearly 50 percent from the field and converting 21-of-23 free throws, the Apaches were unable to overcome Arizona Western's depth and perimeter shooting. Cochise was outscored in bench points and struggled to generate consistent stops in the second half.
Arizona Western was led by a balanced offensive effort, placing multiple players in double figures and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities to maintain momentum down the stretch.
With the loss, Cochise heads back to conference play looking to regroup quickly.
The Apaches return to action Wednesday, Feb. 4, traveling to Thatcher to face Eastern Arizona College at 7:30 p.m.
