Apaches Improve to 2–0, Power Past Community Christian 95–71
Douglas, Ariz. — Cochise College men's basketball completed a season-opening sweep of Community Christian College on Saturday afternoon, pulling away for a 95–71 win at the Stronghold Gymnasium. The victory moves the Apaches to 2–0 on the young season, backed by an explosive second half and another efficient offensive performance.
Cochise shot over 62% from the field and put five players in double figures. After taking a 47–41 lead into halftime, the Apaches outscored the Saints 48–30 after the break and controlled the final 10 minutes with fast-break scoring, turnovers forced, and transition finishing.
Sophomore guard Teron Murray led the way with 26 points, attacking the paint and creating scoring opportunities in transition. Davon Jones added 21, finishing at the rim and knocking down a three. Emmanuel Jo Samuel chipped in 18, including a pair of threes, while Naeem Colston and Jhace Johnson combined for 12 points and 10 rebounds, helping Cochise win the battle on the glass and control possessions.
Cochise finished with 20 assists as a team and held CCC to just 3-for-15 shooting from the perimeter. The Apaches also forced 24 turnovers and turned them into 24 points. Bench scoring continued to be a strength, with Cochise's reserves contributing 35 points in the victory.
Despite the loss, Community Christian received a standout night from Jermiah Calhoun, who scored 26 points. Amari Callender added 18, and Sage Gonzalez finished with 16.
Now 2–0, Cochise returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 13, hosting Big Bend College (WA) at 7:00 p.m. The Vikings are led by head coach Jason Hopkins, a former Cochise player and assistant coach, marking a homecoming matchup in Douglas.
