Apaches Roll in Season Opener, Power Past Community Christian 107–40
Douglas, Ariz. — Cochise College men's basketball opened the 2025–26 season with a commanding win on Friday afternoon, overwhelming Community Christian College 107–40 at the Cochise Stronghold Gymnasium.
Cochise stormed to a 57–18 halftime lead behind suffocating defense, fast-paced transition offense, and efficient shooting. The Apaches shot just over 60% from the field while holding CCC under 30%, and knocked down 10 three-pointers on the night. Team ball movement set the tone from the start, as Cochise piled up 29 assists and saw 11 players enter the scoring column.
Davon Jones sparked the offensive attack off the bench with a team-high 16 points, attacking the rim and finishing in transition. Emmanuel Jo Samuel and Jose Mendez each added 14 — Mendez knocked down four threes, while Samuel controlled the glass with eight rebounds. Teron Murray added 14 as well, finishing 5-of-6 from the floor.
Cochise dominated at the rim, outscoring Community Christian 56–18 in the paint, and controlled the boards with a 50–24 rebounding advantage. Depth was a major factor, with the Apache bench outscoring the Saints 54–8. The defense forced 15 turnovers and turned them into 22 points going the other way.
Community Christian was led by Jermiah Calhoun with 12 points and Amari Callender with 11, but the Saints struggled to find rhythm, going 1–for–16 from three-point range.
With the win, Cochise starts the season 1–0 and will face Community Christian again on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Douglas.
