No. 17 Apaches Split Doubleheader with Eastern Arizona, Move to 39–11 (16–8 ACCAC)
THATCHER, Ariz. — The No. 17 Cochise College Apaches split Saturday's ACCAC doubleheader against Eastern Arizona College, bouncing back in game two after being shut out in the opener. Cochise now stands at 39–11 overall (16–8 ACCAC) and remains two games behind Southern Nevada while tied for second place with Arizona Western with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
Game One: Eastern Arizona 5, Cochise 0
The Apaches were held in check offensively in the opener, falling 5–0 despite limiting Eastern Arizona to manageable scoring opportunities .
Cochise managed just three hits in the contest, with Landon Blais, Zach Cavanaugh, and George McCarroll accounting for the offense.
Eastern Arizona broke through with three runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth to take control.
On the mound, Austin Cushman took the loss, working 4.1 innings while allowing five runs (four earned). Dylan Torres provided solid relief, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings.
Game Two: Cochise 8, Eastern Arizona 1
Cochise responded in a big way in game two, earning an 8–1 victory behind a complete team effort .
The Apaches jumped out early with three runs in the first inning and never looked back, adding insurance late with a five-run ninth inning to secure the win.
Landon Blais led the offense with a strong performance, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while also adding a stolen base.
Anthony Montez continued his hot stretch, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Andrugh Yee drove in two runs. Zach Cavanaugh, George McCarroll, and Shiryu Sato each contributed RBIs as Cochise totaled 10 hits and seven RBIs.
On the mound, Collin Smith delivered a quality start, earning the win after throwing 6.1 innings, allowing just one run while striking out five. Ben Couvreur was dominant in relief, striking out five over 2.2 scoreless innings to close out the victory.
Tight ACCAC Race
With the split, Cochise remains firmly in the ACCAC title race, sitting just two games back of Southern Nevada and tied for second with Arizona Western as the regular season enters its final stretch.
