No. 12 Apaches Split Doubleheader with No. 13 Southern Nevada, Set Up Rubber Match
DOUGLAS, Ariz. — The No. 12 Cochise College Apaches battled in a high-stakes ACCAC doubleheader Friday against No. 13 College of Southern Nevada, splitting the twin bill to move to 37–9 overall (14–6 ACCAC). Cochise now sits just one game behind Southern Nevada in the conference standings.
Game One: Southern Nevada 7, Cochise 1
In the opener, Southern Nevada used timely hitting and a big middle innings surge to take a 7–1 victory .
The Coyotes broke through with two runs in the third and added four more in the fifth inning to seize control of the game.
Cochise tallied eight hits, with Gavin Mesa leading the way with two hits and an RBI, while Landon Blais and Anthony Montez each added two hits.
On the mound, Collin Smith took the loss after allowing six runs over 4.2 innings. The Apaches bullpen worked to limit further damage, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Game Two: Cochise 8, Southern Nevada 0
The Apaches responded in dominant fashion in game two, shutting out Southern Nevada 8–0 behind a complete team performance .
Cochise jumped out early with a run in the first inning before breaking the game open with a four-run fifth inning and continuing to add insurance late.
Andrugh Yee powered the offense with a two-run home run, while Cesar Chavira delivered a strong performance with two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
Gavin Mesa, Sawyer Fech, and George McCarroll each drove in runs, while the Apaches showed patience at the plate, drawing 13 walks.
On the mound, Austin Cushman was outstanding, tossing a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits while striking out five.
Series Set for Finale
With the split, Cochise remains firmly in the ACCAC title race and will have an opportunity to close the gap in the standings.
