No. 14 Apaches Split Doubleheader at No. 15 Arizona Western, Win Series
YUMA, Ariz. — The No. 14 Cochise College Apaches battled through a tough ACCAC road doubleheader on Saturday, splitting with No. 15 Arizona Western College to secure the weekend conference series.
Cochise now stands at 34–8 overall (13–5 ACCAC) following the split in Yuma.
Game One: Arizona Western 4, Cochise 1
The Apaches were limited offensively in the opener, falling 4–1 as Arizona Western used a big fourth inning to take control.
The Matadors plated four runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Gerardo Castro, and added a pair of RBI singles to build a 4–0 lead.
Cochise managed just three hits on the day, with Anthony Montez, Cesar Chavira, and Sawyer Fech accounting for the offense. The Apaches' lone run came in the sixth inning when Montez scored on a wild pitch.
On the mound, Collin Smith went the distance, tossing 6.0 innings while allowing four runs and striking out five.
Game Two: Cochise 8, Arizona Western 2
The Apaches bounced back in a big way in game two, using timely hitting and strong pitching to secure an 8–2 victory .
After falling behind early, Cochise responded with a two-run third inning before breaking the game open in the sixth when Sawyer Fech launched a three-run home run to give the Apaches a 5–1 lead.
Cochise added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings, including a solo home run from Gavin Mesa.
Shiryu Sato and Landon Blais each collected two hits, while Fech finished with three RBIs. Jorge Cardenas and Andrugh Yee also drove in runs as the Apaches totaled 10 hits.
On the mound, Noah Miller earned the win with 6.0 strong innings, allowing just one run while striking out four. Ben Couvreur closed the game with a three-inning save, limiting Arizona Western to just one run over the final frames.
Series Secured
With the split, Cochise takes the conference series against a nationally ranked opponent, continuing to show resilience and depth against top competition.
