No. 14 Apaches Break Program Home Run Record, Sweep Park University JV to move to 28-6
DOUGLAS, Ariz. — The No. 14 Cochise College Apaches made history Tuesday afternoon at Bo Hall Field, breaking a program record that had stood since 1988 while sweeping a non-conference doubleheader against Park University JV.
With the two wins, Cochise improves to 28–6 overall (9–3 ACCAC). More notably, the Apaches surpassed the previous team record of 56 home runs (set in 1988) when Zach Cavanaugh launched the program's 57th home run—and by the end of the day, Cochise had pushed its season total to 60 home runs.
Game One: Cochise 11, Park University JV 1
The Apaches opened the day with a dominant 11–1 victory, using patience at the plate and timely hitting to take control early .
Cochise scored in five different innings, highlighted by a six-run fourth inning that broke the game open. The Apaches finished with 11 runs on eight hits while drawing 10 walks, consistently creating pressure on the basepaths.
Landon Blais led the offense with four RBIs, while Brady Skinner added three RBIs, including a triple. Gavin Mesa and Shiryu Sato each scored twice, and Jorge Cardenas, Andrugh Yee, and Chase Chapman all contributed RBIs.
On the mound, the Apaches were just as dominant. Ben Couvreur earned the win, striking out five over two scoreless innings, while Shane Hooper and Landen Nigg combined with him for 13 strikeouts and limited Park University to just one run on four hits.
Game Two: Cochise 16, Park University JV 1
Cochise completed the sweep in emphatic fashion with a 16–1 run-rule victory, powered by a historic offensive performance .
The Apaches erupted for 16 runs on 14 hits, including multiple extra-base hits and four home runs.
Zach Cavanaugh delivered the historic moment, blasting two home runs and driving in five RBIs, including the record-breaking 57th home run in program history. By the end of the game, Cochise had reached 60 total home runs on the season.
Joe Madill added a huge performance with a home run and four RBIs, while Gavin Mesa also homered and finished with three hits. Landon Blais, Andrugh Yee, and George McCarroll each contributed multi-hit efforts.
On the mound, Cochise continued its dominance. Noah Miller earned the win with two scoreless innings, while Ben Smith and Landon Blais combined to hold Park University to just one run on one hit with 10 total strikeouts.
Historic Day for the Apaches
The doubleheader not only extended Cochise's strong season but marked a historic milestone for the program, as the Apaches rewrote the record books with their power surge.
Cochise has now hit 60 home runs this season, setting a new program standard and showcasing one of the most explosive offenses in school history.
