Apaches Split Doubleheader with Central Arizona, Move to 26–6 (9–3 ACCAC)
DOUGLAS, Ariz. — The No. 15 Cochise College Apaches split Saturday's conference doubleheader against Central Arizona College at Bo Hall Field, rallying for a walk-off win in game one before dropping the second game. Cochise now stands at 26–6 overall and 9–3 in ACCAC play.
Game One: Cochise 6, Central Arizona 5
The Apaches delivered late-game heroics in the opener, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth to secure a 6–5 walk-off victory .
Trailing 5–3 entering the final frame, Cochise strung together key at-bats to complete the comeback. Cesar Chavira and Sawyer Fech each homered earlier in the game, helping keep the Apaches within striking distance.
Shiryu Sato led the offense with two RBIs, while Andrugh Yee, Zach Cavanaugh, and Fech each drove in runs. Gavin Mesa and Anthony Montez both recorded multi-hit performances as Cochise totaled 10 hits and six runs.
On the mound, Collin Smith turned in a strong outing, working eight innings and allowing just three runs (none earned) while striking out four to earn his sixth win of the season. Despite Central Arizona's late push, Cochise capitalized on its final opportunity to secure the victory.
Game Two: Central Arizona 8, Cochise 6
In Game 2, Central Arizona jumped out early and held off Cochise for an 8–6 win .
The Vaqueros plated six runs in the first two innings, forcing Cochise to play from behind. The Apaches responded with a three-run fourth inning and added runs in the fifth and sixth, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Landon Blais continued his strong weekend, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Shiryu Sato added two RBIs, while Jorge Cardenas and Andrugh Yee contributed extra-base hits.
On the mound, Noah Miller took the loss after allowing five runs in 1.2 innings. Max Pitts provided a solid relief effort, striking out eight over 5.1 innings while limiting further damage.
Conference Battle Continues
The Apaches showed resilience throughout the doubleheader, rallying for a walk-off win in game one and continuing to battle offensively in game two. Cochise combined for 12 runs and 19 hits across the two contests.
