No. 15 Apaches Sweep Okotoks Doubleheader, Improve to 24–5
DOUGLAS, Ariz.— The No. 15 Cochise College Apaches continued their strong run of form Tuesday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against the Okotoks Dawgs Baseball Academy (Alberta, Canada) at Bo Hall Field. With the pair of wins, Cochise improves to 24–5 overall (7–2 ACCAC) heading back into conference play.
Cochise secured 10–2 and 10–3 victories, using balanced offense and strong pitching performances in both games.
Game One: Cochise 10, Okotoks 2
The Apaches pulled away midgame to claim a 10–2 win, scoring nine unanswered runs after trailing 2–1 early .
Cochise broke the game open with three runs in the fourth inning and added six more in the sixth to put the contest out of reach. The Apaches finished with 12 hits and nine RBIs in the victory.
Shiryu Sato led the offense with a three-run home run, while Zach Cavanaugh also went deep and drove in three runs. Landon Blais added two hits and an RBI, and Anthony Montez chipped in with two hits and a run driven in.
Andrugh Yee and Joe Madill each contributed multi-hit efforts, helping Cochise maintain consistent offensive pressure.
On the mound, Landon Blais earned the win, allowing two runs over four innings while striking out three. Max Pitts was dominant in relief, tossing three scoreless innings and striking out five to close out the game.
Game Two: Cochise 10, Okotoks 3
Cochise completed the sweep with another 10-run performance in game two, defeating Okotoks 10–3 behind timely hitting and a strong bullpen effort .
The Apaches jumped out early with three runs in the first inning and added key scoring bursts in the third and fifth innings to maintain control throughout the contest.
Zach Cavanaugh had a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs to lead the offense. Shiryu Sato added two RBIs, while Cesar Chavira homered and drove in a run.
Landon Blais reached base four times and scored twice, while Chase Chapman contributed two hits and an RBI.
On the mound, Ben Smith earned the win with four innings of work, allowing three runs while striking out five. The bullpen combination of Landen Nigg and Shane Hooper shut the door, combining for seven strikeouts over three scoreless innings.
Momentum into Conference Play
The Apaches have now won seven of their last eight games, continuing to showcase depth across the lineup and consistency on the mound. Across the doubleheader, Cochise totaled 20 runs, 23 hits, and multiple home runs, while striking out 19 batters.
