No. 17 Apaches Sweep Eastern Arizona Doubleheader, Improve to 22–5 (7–2 ACCAC)
DOUGLAS, Ariz. — The No. 17 Cochise College Apaches continued their strong conference run Saturday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against Eastern Arizona College at Bo Hall Field to improve to 22–5 overall and 7–2 in ACCAC play.
Cochise powered its way to a 13–3 victory in game one before following with a 12–7 win in Game 2, completing the conference series sweep and extending their winning streak to five games.
Game One: Cochise 13, Eastern Arizona 3
The Apaches responded quickly after Eastern Arizona scored three runs in the opening inning, erupting for five runs in the bottom of the first and never looking back on the way to a 13–3 victory .
Cochise added three more runs in the second inning and continued to apply pressure with additional runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings, finishing with 14 hits and 12 RBIs in the six-inning run-rule win.
Gavin Mesa led the offensive surge with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, scoring three runs and adding a double. Landon Blais delivered a big swing with a three-run home run, finishing with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Jorge Cardenas also homered and drove in two runs, while Andrugh Yee added a solo home run. Anthony Montez contributed two RBIs, and Joe Madill, Sawyer Fech, and Chase Chapman each drove in runs as Cochise received production throughout the lineup.
On the mound, Collin Smith earned the win, allowing three runs on five hits across six innings while striking out six to improve to 5–1 on the season .
Game Two: Cochise 12, Eastern Arizona 7
The Apaches completed the sweep with another strong offensive performance in the second game, scoring 12 runs on 10 hits to secure the 12–7 victory .
Eastern Arizona struck early, but Cochise answered with three runs in the second inning and continued to build the lead with key scoring bursts throughout the game.
Gavin Mesa had a standout performance, blasting two home runs and driving in four runs while scoring three times. Shiryu Sato and Jorge Cardenas each added home runs and two RBIs, while Andrugh Yee, Brady Skinner, and Sawyer Fech also drove in runs.
On the mound, Daniel Gomez provided the turning point in relief. After starter Noah Miller struck out eight over 3.2 innings, Gomez entered and delivered 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit to earn his first win of the season.
Ben Couvreur closed the game with two innings of relief, striking out five to seal the victory.
Apaches Rolling in Conference Play
With the doubleheader sweep, Cochise improved to 22–5 overall and 7–2 in conference play, continuing to show its offensive depth and pitching strength as ACCAC competition intensifies.
The Apaches combined for 25 runs, 24 hits, and six home runs across the two games while striking out 21 batters on the mound.
