Cochise Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Utah State–Eastern
The Cochise College Apaches split their Friday doubleheader with Utah State–Eastern at Bo Hall Field, powering their way to a dominant win in game one before dropping a tightly contested series finale. The split moves Cochise to 9–3 on the 2026 season.
Game One: Cochise 15, Utah State–Eastern 5
The Apaches erupted offensively in the opener, rolling to a 15–5 victory behind a balanced lineup and explosive middle innings.
Cochise broke the game open with five runs in the fifth and six more in the sixth, finishing with 13 hits and 15 RBIs. The Apaches collected extra-base hits throughout the lineup and consistently capitalized on scoring opportunities.
Jorge Cardenas led the charge with a 3-for-4 performance, driving in three runs and adding a triple. Shiryu Sato added two hits and three RBIs, while Sawyer Fech drove in two and scored three times. Gavin Mesa also delivered three RBIs, and TJ Shaw Jr. contributed two more.
Landon Blais scored four runs and reached base multiple times, while Chase Chapman added two runs and an RBI to round out a complete offensive performance.
On the mound, Ben Couvreur earned the win in relief, tossing three innings and allowing just one run. He followed starter Noah Miller, who struck out seven across three innings while limiting damage despite early pressure from Utah State–Eastern.
Game Two: Utah State–Eastern 5, Cochise 4
Game 2 proved to be a much tighter contest, with Utah State–Eastern edging Cochise 5–4.
After falling behind early, the Apaches mounted a comeback with a four-run fifth inning to pull even, but Utah State–Eastern held on down the stretch to secure the win.
Mesa and Sato provided the biggest offensive sparks, each homering and driving in two runs. Blais added a hit and scored, while Shaw Jr. and Fech also contributed base hits.
Ben Smith took the loss after starting on the mound, with Austin Cushman providing solid relief work over the final 4.1 innings, allowing just one run and keeping Cochise within striking distance.

With the split, Cochise moves to 9–3 overall as the teams conclude their weekend series.
