Apaches Complete Series Sweep of Colorado Northwestern, Improve to 7–1
The Cochise College Apaches wrapped up their series against Colorado Northwestern Community College in impressive fashion on Saturday afternoon, earning a 16–11 victory at Bo Hall Field to complete the doubleheader sweep and improve to 7–1 on the 2026 season.
Cochise used a balanced offensive attack and timely pitching to outlast Colorado Northwestern in a high-scoring finale, as shown in the official box score.
After Colorado Northwestern jumped out to an early seven-run lead in the second inning, the Apaches responded immediately with four runs of their own and never backed down.
Cochise followed with three runs in the third and continued to apply pressure with multi-run innings in the fourth, fifth, and sixth, scoring in five straight frames to take control of the contest. The Apaches finished with 16 runs on 16 hits and drew nine walks.
Gavin Mesa led the offensive surge, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs, including a home run. Landon Blais added a perfect 3-for-3 day with three runs and two RBIs, while Chase Chapman also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Shiryu Sato finished 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Sawyer Fech added two hits and an RBI, and Jorge Cardenas contributed an RBI while drawing two walks. Zach Cavanaugh reached base five times and drove in a run, helping extend multiple innings.
On the mound, Cochise used three pitchers to navigate the high-scoring affair. Daniel Gomez provided a key stretch in relief, striking out six over three innings, before Collin Smith closed out the game with 2.1 innings and five strikeouts to earn the win and move to 2–0 on the season.
Strong Finish to the Series
With the victory, the Apaches completed another sweep of Colorado Northwestern and capped a successful homestand with consistent offensive production and strong bullpen performances.
Through eight games, Cochise has demonstrated depth throughout the lineup and resilience on the mound, using balanced contributions to build early-season momentum.
