Cochise, Carrillo continue dominance in Arizona

Jerry Carrilo just finished his 25th year as head coach for the Cochise College men’s basketball team, and the program has never been stronger. Cochise has dominated the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference the last five years, posting an 84-26 record, winning 76% of their games vs. other Arizona teams. 

The past five years have included Carrillo earning win number 562, three ACCAC championships, and five straight NJCAA All-Americans. In fact, Cochise sophomore Naje Smith earned 1st Team All-American honors earlier in April, which is the sixth consecutive year a Runnin’ Apache has been on an All-American team. 

Over those five years, Cochise has moved over 25 players on to the four-level, 10 of those to NCAA division 1 schools. 

Carrillo has averaged 22.5 wins per season during his time at Cochise. He has guided his programs to five NJCAA Region-1 championships, eight ACCAC titles, and three appearances at the NJCAA national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.

1. 2014-15 – Jordan Martin, Goodyear, AZ at Hawaii Pacific—Honorable Mention

2. 2015-16- Arell Hennings, Seattle, WA at UC Davis–Honorable Mention

3. 2016-17- Dallas Polk-Hilliard, Milwaukee, WI at South Dakota State– 2nd Team.

4. 2017-18 – Chaz Mack, Tucson, AZ at Cornell–2nd Team (NJCAA Pinnacle Academic All American 4.0GPA)

5. 2018-19- Chris Whitaker, Harrisburg, PA at Portland State–2nd Team

6. 2019-20- Naje Smith, Spokane, WA at Boise State–1st Team
