On Tuesday, March 3, the Cochise College baseball went on the road to take on Phoenix College. Pitching highlighted game one for both Phoenix College and Cochise. The Apaches handed the ball over to Freshman RHP Treyjen Meza. He surrendered three runs on four hits over five and a thirds innings, striking out three and walking one Phoenix College hitter. Sophomore RHP Kyle Morrison relived Meza in the fifth inning. Morrison threw two-thirds innings allowing no hits and no runs. Cochise got on the board early due to an RBI single by Freshman outfielder Fernando Brazoban. The Apaches were able to add another run in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a sac fly by Jimmy De Leon. Cochise was in complete control for the majority of the ball game until the bottom of the sixth inning when Phoenix College led the inning off, reaching on an error. Phoenix followed the error with a couple of base hits that pushed three runs across the board, giving them the lead 3-2. After falling down a run, the Apaches couldn’t add a run of their own in the top of the seventh, giving them the loss 3-2. Cochise had four hits total in the game, one each for Yanez, Rohlicek, Brazoban, and Cooper.
In game two of the doubleheader, Freshman LHP Joseph Sinclair started on the mound for the Apaches. Sinclair lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out one. Cochise went down early as Pheonix College scored in the first inning and the third inning, giving them a 2-0 lead over Cochise. The Apaches were able to even things up in the top of the fourth due to an error that scored Yanez and then a single that scored Brazoban by Alex Stinnett. The Apaches fell behind in the bottom half of the fourth when Phoenix scored another run making it 3-2. Freshman RHP Marco Ozuna relieved Sinclair and gave a valiant effort on the mound keeping the Apaches in the game. Ozuna threw four and a third innings while striking out six. Another Phoenix College run made the score 4-2. Cochise added a run in the top of the eighth inning on a ground ball by Rohlicek, scoring Cameron Pehrson, who got things started with a triple. At the top of the ninth inning, Jimmy De Leon doubled with one out, giving the Apaches life. De Leon was stranded on second, giving Cochise the loss 4-3. The Apaches tallied seven hits in the ball game. Cameron Pehrson and Jimmy De Leon led the Apaches with two hits in the game. Cochise takes on South Mountain Community College at home this coming Saturday.
