Cochise College women’s soccer student-athlete received two Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) Goalkeeper of the Week awards for her conference play and now receives national attention.
Freshman Goalkeeper Brianna Guzman has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) Goalkeeper of the Week award after her efforts in two conference wins last week. Guzman started and played every minute of those matches as the Lady Apaches are making a run for the post-season. She has worked her way as the starting keeper for the Lady Apaches, starting nine games out of 10, only to miss one game due to a wrist injury.
Last week, Guzman made eight saves in an overtime win against Chandler-Gilbert Community College, conceding one goal against the top-scoring team in the ACCAC. She made seven saves against Mesa Community College, including shutting down the second-leading scorer in the ACCAC, Annabella Bara. Guzman has made 48 saves and conceded only seven goals with five games remaining in the regular season. She has three shutouts on the season.
Up next, the Lady Apaches will host South Mountain on Thursday, October 10, at 3:00 pm.
