Women’s rodeo first at New Mexico State University Rodeo

The Cochise College women’s rodeo team won first place at the New Mexico State University rodeo on September 26, and the men finished third.

In the Women’s All-around, Jessi Jane Portenier took first, and Jill Donnelly took third. Portenier finished first in barrel racing, second in goat tying and third in breakaway. Donnelly took first in goat tying, split 6th and 7th in breakaway roping, and finished in the top 10 of the barrel racing. Catherine Clayton finished sixth/seventh in goat tying and teammates, Alexis Manley finished ninth and Maddee Doerr in tenth.
Sherrick Sanborn placed second in the Men’s All-around. He also took second place in steer wrestling, third in team roping and seventh in tie down roping. Stuart Wright finished second in saddle bronc. Ka’oahu Haaililio placed fourth in the tie down roping.

The Cochise women are sitting on top of the Grand Canyon Region standings, followed by New Mexico State University in second and Central Arizona College in third. The Cochise men are third in the region standings.
