Cochise Soccer falls to Phoenix College

On Saturday, August 31, the Cochise College Apaches played their home opener at Douglas High School against Phoenix College. With storms brewing nearby, the game started a few minutes early. Both teams came out with intensity and went into half time tied 0-0. After 60 minutes of back and forth play with opportunities for both sides, a sophomore transfer, Anahi Hernandez started off the scoring with a long shot over the keeper from 35 yards out. Mandy Acuna provided the assist from the backline. About ten minutes later, Phoenix College scored off a replayed corner kick to tie the game at one. At the end of regular time, Cochise and Phoenix were tied 1-1 and heading into overtime. Just 6 minutes in, Phoenix College slipped behind the Apache defense to score and end the game. With nine shots each and after a hard-fought battle, Cochise falls to the #18 nationally ranked Phoenix College 2-1.
