On Tuesday, March 26, the Apaches (31-6) took on Chandler-Gilbert CC for a home conference doubleheader. Freshman RHP Isiah Campa started on the mound for Cochise as they looked to play well at home as they have so far this year. Campa dominated the Chandler-Gilbert hitters only allowing two hits in 7 innings with nine strikeouts. Offensively freshman OF Steven Saunders led the way with a 2-2 game with 2 RBIs while reaching base all four at-bats. The Apaches would play solid defense behind Campa’s dominant performance on the mound and would go on to win game one by a score of 5-2.
Game two saw another great performance by another Cochise pitcher. Freshman RHP Aaron de Groot got the start in this one, and he looked comfortable right from the start. Aaron de Groot would pitch eight innings in this game keeping the Apaches in the game the whole way. He would only allow two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in the game. Offensively sophomore DH Max Christoff would get a big 2 RBI base hit in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Apaches would go on to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning thanks to freshman OF Steven Saunders reaching base every at bat again in game two. Sophomore RHP Jesse Meyer would pitch the 9th inning to close out the game and pick up his fourth save of the year. Cochise would win game two by a score of 3-2.
Cochise College now holds a 31-6 overall record, currently holding sole possession of first place in the ACCAC with a 15-5 conference record.
