Cochise College took on Phoenix College at home for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 5.
For game one Cochise had their ace on the mound, sophomore RHP Jake Rogers. He challenged the Phoenix College hitters all game leaving the game in the 6th inning with a 6-2 lead. Rogers would end the game throwing 5+ innings with only one earned run given up and 6 K’s. The Cochise offense was only limited to four hits in the game, but hitters found other ways to be productive. Apache hitters walked as a team six times which extended some innings and allowed the Phoenix College pitchers to work much harder than they wanted to. Sophomore UTL Justin Lee had the biggest hit in the game with a 3 RBI bases-clearing triple hit in the fourth inning. Sophomore RHP Jesse Meyer showed some grit on the mound picking up his second save of the year. Meyer was able to secure Cochise College’s 6-4 victory in game one.
Game two saw the Apache offense come alive. Freshman RHP Isiah Campa got the start on the mound as the Phoenix College hitters could not figure him out. Campa had a rough first inning but once he settled in he was pretty much unhittable. Campa would go on to pitch five innings with 10 K’s only allowing two runs in the game. Offensively four Apache hitters had multiple hit games. Freshman SS Jimmy De Leon went 2-3 in the game with three runs scored and 2 RBIs. Freshman 1B Ryan Magdic had a three-hit performance in the game. Sophomores DH Max Christoff and OF George Sutherland each reached base all four at-bats going 2-2 with 2 BBs. Cochise College would go on to win this game in 7 innings by a score of 14-2.
Cochise College plays again this Saturday, March 9 for an away conference doubleheader against South Mountain Community College.
