Cochise College dominates South Mountain 97-67.
Last night the Cochise College men’s basketball team clinched an outright Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) regular season title with a huge win over South Mountain Community College. The Apaches have now won 14 games dating back to January 5th and don’t seem to be letting up.
The Apaches led throughout the game starting with a 7-0 run that began with a 3 form Mahki Morris and a dunk by Jamaure Gregg. The first half was back and forth with momentum swings on both sides. The Apaches biggest lead was 11 points, but South Mountain was able to cut it to four points until a final push to end the half for the Apaches gave them a 42-34 lead at half time. The second half is where the Apaches got to runnin’. After a couple of stops and easy baskets in transition, the Apaches were able to extend the lead to 20 points and ultimately winning by a margin of 30. Morris led the Apaches with 19 points on +50% shooting from the field. Chris Whitaker also reached the 19 point mark. Naje Smith chipped in with 17 points of his own while Gregg added 15 points. Darnell Robateau played a great floor game as he had the only double-double with 11 points 11 assists while adding five rebounds.
“Tonight was a special night for our team. We have been able to establish a body of work that will be recognized throughout the history of this program,” Head Coach Jerry Carrillo said. “Our guys played hard tonight on the defensive end which led us to be successful in securing the conference regular season title.”
