Robateau leads the Apaches past Scottsdale to keep the streak alive

Cochise College Apaches win 7th Straight

The Cochise men’s basketball team is still on their hot streak. The Apaches in 2019 haven’t dropped a game and created separation from the rest of the conference for the regular season title. Saturday night the Apaches hosted the Fighting Artichokes of Scottsdale Community College. The Artichokes are one of the two teams in the conference that have been on the winning side of a game versus the Apaches. The Apaches were motivated to keep their win streak alive and get their revenge on their home court.

Cochise came out strong on both ends of the floor, not letting the Artichokes score their first field goal until the 16-minute mark. The Artichokes were able to find a rhythm midway through the first half and took a 29-25 lead. After head Coach Jerry Carrillo called a time out, the Apaches were able to put together a run of their own that eventually gave them the lead. With an excellent downhill play by Darnell Robateau, Jalun Trent and Mahki Morris, the Apaches took a 41-33 lead into halftime. Their effort never wavered after intermission as the team was able to win the game with a score of 85-72.

Lead guard Darnelle Robateau controlled the scoring. Robateau was able to achieve a career high in points notching 21 for the game while adding six rebounds, and four assist. His scoring was done efficiently only missing three of his ten shots. Robateau was able to get himself into scoring positions early and often. Mahki Morris was able to contribute with 19 points, and Jamaure Gregg added his second double-double of the week with a 17 point and 13 rebound game. Jalun Trent started the second game of his career and ran the point guard position for most of the game and poured in a 14 point 7 assist performance.

“Darnell is a good player for us. He helps us with our versatility as a team because he can play two positions effectively,” Head Coach Jerry Carrillo said. “Tonight’s game we needed him to be a scorer, and he showed that he could do that and do it well. Our team is playing at a high level right now. We are in a great position to win a championship.”
