Women’s basketball shoots way to victory over Mesa

The #23 ranked Cochise College women’s basketball team came away with a 66-49 road victory over Mesa College.   Mesa came out with a packed in a 3-2 zone and dared the Apaches to shoot.  The Apaches struggled from the outside but had a tremendous defensive effort to hold Mesa to only 49 points.  The Apaches also outrebounded Mesa by 24.  Kayla Harris led all scorers with 21 points and eight rebounds.  Yemiyah Morris added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double.

“This was a tough road game for us and a good win.  Mesa is very well coached and a great defensive team.  We dominated the boards and got stops when we needed them,” coach Laura Hughes said.

The Apaches are now 9-2 on the season and 5-1 in conference.

Next Up: The Apaches are off for winter break for the two weeks.   On Monday, December 31 they return to action to take on #9 ranked South Plains in the Pima College Tournament.
