The Cochise College Men’s Basketball team came up short in their conference game versus the Scottsdale Community College Artichokes. Scottsdale was able to control the pace of play from the jump ball. The Apaches, who are used to playing a high tempo style of basketball, were slowed down by the artichokes who walked the ball up the floor and methodically ran the offense. The artichokes took an eight-point lead into halftime with a score of 42-33. The scoring margin remained that until the Apaches were able to make a run to cut close in the final minutes of the game. The Apaches missed a three running 3 point shot to win the game as the final seconds expired. Freshman Chris Whitaker and Sophomore Mahki Morris lead the way for the Apaches with 24 and 22 points.
“We weren’t able to get out and establish any kind of flow,” said Coach Jerry Carrillo. “Scottsdale made some tough shots all game long, and it’s hard to get a flow when you have to take the ball out of the basket.”
The Apaches look to bounce back at the Stronghold Gym this Saturday, December 1 at 7:30 p.m. as they take on Central Arizona.
