Women’s Basketball Opens Season with Two Big Wins

The Cochise College Women’s Basketball team opened the season with two wins over national powerhouses Salt Lake City and Midland College.  On Friday the Apaches took on #16 ranked Salt Lake City.  After a slow start, the Apaches came on strong after halftime to outscore Salt Lake 25-14 in the third quarter.  Raena Suggs was the leading scorer with 18 points.  Kayla Harris added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

On Saturday the Apaches moved to 2-0 with a 75-59 win over Midland College.  LaPraisjah Johnson and Kayla Harris led all scorers with 17 points apiece.  Awa Keita and Raena Suggs were also in double figures with 14 and 10 points.

Head Coach Laura Hughes said, “These were two good wins for us over nationally recognized programs.  We still have a lot to work on, but it was a great way to begin the season.”

The Apaches will travel to Thatcher, AZ for a three-game tournament, November 15, 16 and 17.
