Thursday, October 11, the Cochise College Women’s Soccer Team traveled to take on Gateway. Last time these squads rivaled, the Apaches fell to the Geckos 3-1 on their home turf. Kickoff took place under an eerie dark clouded sky at Riverview Park. Cochise would have possession and connect passes to get to the final third but failed to get one in before going into halftime.
Early in the second half, Gateway would slip through to take the lead but the Apaches refused to journey home with the weight of disappointment on their shoulders. Cochise amped up the offense, piling on a play after play when with about fifteen minutes left of the match, Freshman Leticia Seabra would work her way down the sideline to cross a ball into Sophomore Magali Brizuela, who found it out of the air to secure it into the back of the net.
With an even score of 1-1, the Apaches would find themselves in overtime once more. A scoreless first ten minutes would lead into double overtime where Cochise rejected the mere thought of tying again. As a rallied force took the pitch, the energy was enough to force a goal within the first three minutes. A combination play from Sophomores Savannah Hobbs and Magali Brizuela would advance the Apaches down the field to find Seabra who then dribble into the box to place it perfectly into the lower corner.
Cochise is now 5-7-4 in region play as they set out to defend their home turf this Saturday against Paradise Valley. This weekend’s match is also Sophomore Day; come to support our six student-athletes for a 1:30 pm kickoff as we celebrate their two years of being Lady Apaches!
