Tuesday, September 11, the Women’s Soccer Team hosted a mid-afternoon match against Gateway. The Geckos were able to capitalize early; seven minutes in #5 Kyra Fletcher would head a back post cross in to give Gateway the lead. Although the Apaches would lock it into the final third, they had no luck and went into half trailing 1-0.
A minute following the double whistle, #18 Allison Kolsrud would drive in a dead ball to double the Geckos’ lead. Cochise would respond fifteen minutes later with a goal from Sophomore Lupita Ibarra assisted by Freshman Leticia Seabra. With some fight in the Apaches, they laid on the shots, totaling fourteen for the game, but none found the back of the net. Allowing Gateway to score with three and a half minutes left of the match, Cochise would fall 3-1.
The Lady Apaches are now 3-2-1 in region play and hit the road Thursday to take on Phoenix Community College for an evening kickoff under the lights.
