Women’s Soccer wins their first game of the season.

Tuesday, August 28, the Lady Apaches hit the road to take on South Mountain for their first region match. Kickoff took place in the 3:30 p.m. Phoenix heat. Cochise struggled to find their groove as a unit throughout the first half, creating numerous scoring opportunities but failing to capitalize on any. Twenty-nine minutes in, #11 Victoria Negrete of South Mountain would volley a ball inside the eighteen to take the Apaches trailing 1-0 into the second half.

Cochise seemed to discover their stride as they took the pitch for the final forty-five. The squad wasted no time, a little over five minutes in, a series of connected passes would lead to Freshman Sarah Ntifu to assist Freshman Amanda Acuna to tie up the score. Following only six minutes later, Sophomore Magali Brizuela would tuck in a penalty kick to give the Apaches the lead. Between an aggressive offense who were hungry for another goal and a tough defense led by Freshman Captain Mckenna Jones, Cochise would secure their 2-1 lead until the end. Freshman Goalkeeper Brenna Seiler made her first collegiate appearance to earn herself a second-half shutout.

Make sure to come to check out the 2018 squad at their home game this Saturday, September 1 as the Cochise Lady Apaches take on the Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes at 1:30 pm.
